Sitting and talking about feelings for a full 50-minute therapy session can be challenging for adolescent and teenage boys. In my sessions, I often incorporate a share activity—like @uno or other card games—alongside conversation, which can be highly effective and beneficial for many reasons:

1. It takes away the pressure of maintaining eye contact all the time and having the attention solely focused on them
2. It creates a shared, side-by-side activity—one of the many ways boys and men naturally connect and bond
3. It lessens the intensity of feelings that may come up when talking about topics that may be developmentally challenging to talk about
4. It creates an environment that allows them to decompress after a long day at school
